ay puta nag-english na si bria (A take on "no pay, no costrip")

grabbed from Ferrari Lacson on Facebook
-----Well, as a con-goer that seldom pays for entrance (only when I need to purchase/pick up stuff); I don't think that this is much of a problem. This is why they have conventions in the first place---to make money. If no one is going to go inside the event or buy from the stands, how would the organizers get their money back from the expenses from the event itself?

There are two sides to this story, the ones who think that paying a hundred bucks for cosplaying in an event is bullshit---and those who think they're all high and mighty just because they paid the cheap-ass entrance fee.

Since the organizers had these "law enforcers" help out, there was an allegedly "no pay, no costrip" rule in TagCom--which the management had no idea about. The "no pay, no costrip" rule had cheap cosplayers rage online, ranting here and there about how they are not going to enjoy the convention if they are going to pay a hundred bucks for the event, ranting how poor students are, how expensive costumes already were, and paying an additional hundred would make them sacrifice their food money.

If you can't pay for your costumes, then why would you still go to a convention? Why not go flaunt your costume in a free photoshoot instead. There are more than a lot of people willing to shoot your costume for free in shoots organized by small groups, you just have to ask nicely, and don't forget to show gratitude after the shoot.

Although truth to be told, if you don't have enough money for the convention itself, the quality and effort you put in your costume would probably be directly proportional. What I'm saying here is, cosplay itself isn't a cheap hobby--if you tend to be stingy on entrance fees, the same thing goes on to your costumes. There are tendencies though that cheap cosplay is a good thing. If, one, you know how to make your own shit; two, you are actually aiming for comic relief. A nice wig would probably cost you about 600php or more. If you can't cosplay on this event, save enough money for the next one. There are more than enough anime/gaming cons in the Philippines (most especially in Manila) for you to "debut" your costume. If you have enough time to prepare, you'd have enough budget for a better quality costume, AND the entrance fee, PLUS a Chickenjoy. Remember, you don't have to cosplay on every convention.

But what miffed me the most are the people who think that they are entitled to call the cheapskates shit, when what they only did was pay the hundred-peso entrance fee to a con. Are you seriously saying that you guys became the high-and-mighty people of the community just because these people cannot pay for the entrance fee? That's totally a nice thing to do. *slow claps*
